OUR FESTIVAL THIS YEAR WAS HELD OVER THE WEEKEND OF JUNE 21st AND 22nd 2008

SATURDAY 21st: Social Evening was held at Chermside Bowls Club in Rode Road.

SUNDAY CONCERT: Kedron Wavell Services Club.


The Brisbane Steel Guitar Club would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to Adrian Bramich from Bundaberg who did a wonderful job as Emcee.


 

Noel Anstead a founding member of the Brisbane Steel Guitar Club began the Festival with a Question and Answer afternoon on the Saturday. As you can see there were many faces there hanging onto Noel's every word.

Alan Hutchison is a most improved Dobro player from Brisbane. Alistair McPherson from Taree, enjoyed playing at the Saturday Social Evening

Ian kerr playing at the Sunday Concert. Ian is a loyal member of the Brisbane Club Ivan Posa on the right is enjoying playing at the casual Saturday Evening Social. Ivan hails from New Zealand and has attended many of our Festivals

Above is Damien O'Dell with his group of musicians enjoy the Saturday night. Garry Brown from Sydney also played for our Sunday Concert

Here are Brian Ringrose (left) and Paddy Long (right) at the Saturday Social. Both Brian and Paddy come over regularly from New Zealand. Brian and Paddy usually play together at our Festivals.

Here we have John McKeough and his group from Rockhampton and Gladstone

Above on the left we have Ivan Posa from New Zealand on the Pedal Steel Guitar with Eddie Smith from Alice Springs. Both of these players traveled a long way to come to the Festival. On the right is Mike Kirkley who originally hails from the USA.

This will be Keith's last Festival as he is relocating to Western Australia This lovely arrangement of flowers was presented to Lorna Xanthos by the Brisbane Steel Guitar Club

A new Award this year was presented to Melanie Guye, the late John Guye's daughter by Lorna Xanthos

This is a wonderful display for Des Anthony's guitars. Des is a Luthier and also plays his guitars.

Above is Des Anthony showing that his talents don't stop at building guitars but playing a Pedal Steel as well. Mike Tyne above is from Sydney and he enjoyed playing to the gathered crowd at the Saturday night Social

Here is Ken Kitching who is renown as far abroad as the USA for his expertise on the Pedal Steel Guitar as well as the Lap Steel. Another Saturday Evening photo. This time of Ned Dodd from Rockhampton and Gladstone

Above is Ray THE HAT Hasler. On the left Ray is with Kevin King who is a Roll of Reknown inductee. On the right Ray is enjoying playing on the Saturday Evening. Ray certainly traveled a long way and savedhis cents as he came all the way for the Philippines

 

THE HALL OF FAME AWARDS

Above is Warren Neilson who proudly accepted the Award honouring him as a member of the HALL OF FAME from Tiger Bales 98.8fm.

We all know how much Warren deserved this Award.


The Late Norm Bodkin was inducted into the Hall of Fame this year and his wife Anita and his sister were there to accept this Award from Tiger Bales 98.9fm who Sponsor this Award I'm sure if Norm was alive today he would feel very honoured.

This elegant trophy pictured here is the Xanthos Memorial Award.

Melaine, John Guye's daughter recieved the Award on behalf of her father who passed away in April 2008. Lorna Xanthos presented the award on behalf of her late husband George Xanthos, who passed away in June 2007.
